The name of the project is taken from Rainer Werner Fassbinder's “World on a Wire”. The movie evolves around a simulation program, called "Simulacron”, that contains an artificial world with thousands of “identity units.” These units are uninformed human beings who are unaware that they are living in an artificial world. The name of the program is influenced by the word Simulacra. Mario Perniola's definition of a Simulacra is “the image of something that does not exist.”
These photographs of hotel bedrooms are associated with intimacy and thus raise questions about the idealisation of relationships. Can the intimate experiences we expect and wish to have be more than an idea?
